Governance at Ara

Ara Institute of Canterbury is governed by a Council appointed by the Minister for Vocational Education.

The Council provides strategic oversight, ensures strong stewardship of the organisation’s resources and supports Ara to deliver high-quality, vocational education that meets the needs of learners, employers and communities across Canterbury.

In 2026, Ara returns to an independent governance model. The establishment of the new Council marks an important milestone in this transition and ensures Ara has the leadership and accountability needed to move confidently into its next chapter.
