Ara staff announced as NZIST Academic Board members

07 May, 2020

Congratulations to Ara staff members Glynnis Brook and Deborah Young who have been appointed as members of the new NZIST (New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology) Academic Board.

Both Glynnis and Deborah are bringing a great deal of academic and practical experience to the Board, with Glynnis currently the Department of Health Practice’s Head of Department / Director Portfolio and Strategy, and Deborah as Manager of Academic Quality.

Glynnis has experience working in ITO and ITP environments and a background in Social Work and the broader health industry, including Professional Registration Board knowledge. Deborah has been an NZIST Working Group member and a convenor of the NZ ITP Academic Managers Forum.

"It's a great opportunity to contribute to the new Academic Board of the new Institute," Glynnis said. "I'm able to offer my experience in teaching and learning, academic management, NZQA quality assurance across the sector and draw upon my profressional background in social work, which includes skills in team work, collaboration and partnership – all critical in this new environment."

Deborah said, "Given that I was involved in the Academic Architecture workstream at the onset of the Workstreams set up by ROVE I believe that will enhance the initial work completed by the Board. My background in tertiary education has provided me the opportunity to build my technical and quality assurance expertise."

Council Chair Murray Strong said yesterday in the first board meeting that NZIST was delighted at the calibre of applicants for the 12 places on the Academic Board. “This is an outstanding board with a great mix of knowledge and skills that will serve NZIST, its subsidiaries, the education sector and the country well.  We look forward to their contribution and to working with them.”
