Advanced Practicum

This course is the ‘capstone’ course in the Master of Nursing Nurse Practitioner pathway. Nurse Practitioner students work closely with mentors to achieve the Nursing Council of New Zealand’s competencies for the Nurse Practitioner Scope of Practice.

This course is conducted over one year and aims at consolidating the skills that students require for work in advanced clinical practice. Students will work with mentors in the clinical environment, focusing on refining and enhancing those skills that are essential for their area of practice. Working with the competency standards appropriate for their area of practice, students will develop a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates their advanced clinical ability and addresses the required competency standards for their practice.

Academic mentorship and clinical supervision will combine to assist the student in practice, utilising online activities and tutorials, face to face academic contact, and learning in practice. Seminars and workshops focusing on clinical practice will be planned throughout the course.
