To appreciate the importance of the transition from hapūtanga/pregnancy to becoming a mātua/parent/, whānau/family and the influence that these fundamental whānau/family relationships have on life course outcomes for the pēpi/baby.

Description

The learning outcomes for this course are:

Identify and explain the role of social and community groups and support agencies available for mātua/parents.

Explain how whānau/family may be supported to make independent and informed decisions regarding choices for their pēpi/baby.

Identify a range of factors that shape the physical and emotional wellbeing of the pēpi/baby.

Analyse physiological, spiritual, emotional and psycho-social changes that commonly occur for new mātua/parents and discuss strategies for facilitating these changes.
