New Zealand Radio Awards finalists announced

12 May, 2020

The New Zealand Radio Awards, which first started in 1978, were created to recognize the best of the best within the radio broadcasting community of New Zealand; attracting entries from New Zealand radio stations and their staff, advertising agencies and production houses.

Ara Institute of Canterbury’s NZBS – the nation’s premier provider of broadcast journalism, television, film, digital media, radio performance and production education - sponsors the three ‘Best New Broadcaster’ categories. This year, six out of the ten finalists in these categories are Ara graduates, demonstrating just what an advantage the school gives students. This year’s awards line-up also features many other Ara graduates across a wide spectrum of possible awards.

Last year, another Ara graduate, Logan Church, who currently works at Radio New Zealand, was recognized as 2019’s “Best New Broadcaster “ and this year he continues in the running for Best News or Sports Journalist.

Ara staff are also involved in judging many of the other categories.

The winners will be announced online on May 15th, replacing the regular gala event held in Auckland.
