Smiling faces and excitement welcomed Ara staff members to the office of the Aranui Community Trust on Wednesday.

The community group entered Ara’s Space Invaders competition, stood out and won an amazing prize pack consisting of comfortable bean bags, a microwave and toastie maker for the staff room, a ping pong table and an arcade machine that lends the competition its name.

Happy faces all around after receiving the prize pack consisting of beanbags, a microwave and toastie machine, a ping pong table and an arcade machine.

It took eight Trust members five attempts to create a video that showcased team work and answered the question “Why is Ara a great place to study?”.

The video by the group stood out because of their humour, the involvement of a big group of staff members and the fact that they all knew about the vast range of advantages that Ara offers.

You can watch their video here.

The arcade machine is a big hit with the Trust members and will be used at community events.

Rachael Fonotia, Manager and Aranui Community Co-ordinator, said the team was rapt they were chosen to receive the prize.

“This prize is gratefully accepted by all of us. It won’t just sit at our workplace – it will go out with us to events and hopefully engage many young people.

“We have a great relationship with Ara. We work together to offer opportunities and tertiary education to lifelong learners in our community.”

Eight Trust members were involved in creating the winning video. Unfortunately not all could be present at the prize giving.

The competition will go into a second round very soon and high schools and community groups are invited to submit a photo that relates to the caption “When the squad rolls up to Ara…”. The two funniest/most creative entries will win a prize pack each for their school/community space.
