Call of Cthulhu takes Best in Show at Edible Books

30 August, 2018

An expressive green octopus, made of cake, stole the show at the Ara 2018 Edible Book competition at lunchtime yesterday. Judges, spanning the range from published poet to prize winning chefs, could not resist Madeleine Thompson’s entry The Call of Cthulhu, which also won Best Interpretation.

The high-powered judging team of City librarian Donna Robertson, poet Erik Kennedy and the young Nestle Toque D’or winning team of Shikylah Dearnley, Chahna Victoria Davis and Navneet Narayan awarded Most Imaginative to the exquisitely decorated Alice in Wonderland by Karina Frangini. Most Delectable went to Wedding Bees by Julie Humby and Funniest went to Dune by George Archibald.

The Peoples’ Choice was Alice In Wonderland.

Entries had to be inspired by a book title and had to be edible.

When the judging was complete, an appreciative crowd devoured most of the entries, leaving aside raw yams and a broccoli ‘tree’.
