Course Content

Learn essential basic plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying skills and prepare for further study or an apprenticeship.

The Plumbing Pre Trade module has been designed to give you all the fundamental skills needed to begin a career in plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying. You will learn the process of assembling, installing and repairing pipes; how to use plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying drawings and fabricate basic components.

With relevant work experience you will also apply health and safety requirements to plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying contexts and experience using appropriate safety equipment.

In order to undertake this programme you must be physically able to work safely in an industry-related work environment.

Course Structure

To complete this Youth course you are required to do the NZQF unit standards outlined in the table below. The credits above are Ara credits which you will receive upon completion of this course. Please note the number of credits may be different.

Academic requirements

To enrol you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or hold a visa which allows you to be enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school.

English requirements

If English is not your first language you are also required to provide evidence of your English language skills as listed below or credits in English rich subjects from New Zealand educational institutions. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.

IELTS 5.5 Academic (with no band score lower than 5.0).  For acceptable alternatives refer to the English Proficiency Outcomes Chart.
