Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery of IT resources via the internet. It allows access to technology services such as computing power, storage and databases on an as-needed basis from cloud providers. It reduces costs for users and helps them to be more agile, innovative and effective.
About this programme
The AWS re/Start short course prepares participants for entry-level cloud computing roles in operations, site reliability, infrastructure support and technical-adjacent business support functions.
Through real-world, scenario-based exercises as well as hands-on labs and coursework, you’ll learn how cloud computing works; how to use different programming languages; and how to build Linux, Python, network and security systems, and relational databases. You’ll participate in an internship with an industry partner (who could be a potential employer) and you’ll also develop practical career skills, including interview preparation and creating a CV.
The programme covers the cost of the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification exam, so you can validate your cloud skills with an industry-recognised credential.

Pre-requisites
To be eligible for admission to this programme, you must:
- be a New Zealand citizen/resident
- be 16 years old by the time the programme starts
- have general IT technical knowledge and/or NCEA Level 2 or above in computing, or equivalent, or demonstrated capability through work experience
- attend an interview with academic staff and industry placement provider to be successfully enrolled to the programme
