Mobility Action Plan

MAP classes are currently on hold and are likely to resume in Term 3, starting the week of 20 July 2020

What is MAP?

The Mobility Action Plan, also known as MAP, is a free eight-week programme for people who have osteoarthritis in their hip or knee. The programme has been shown to help people move more easily and be able to do more in their everyday lives.

MAP is delivered by Ara’s experienced educators and facilitators. Participants take part in exercise sessions that promote joint support and mobility, and education sessions that cover topics like eating well, managing pain, medication and mindfulness. Participant feedback, along with tests of their fitness show that MAP produces positive results.

Who is behind MAP?

MAP is a collaborative project between the Canterbury DHB, Sport Canterbury and Ara Institute of Canterbury’s sports science and wellness centre, The Zone.

How can I get involved?

If you’d like to participate in MAP, ask your GP or other health professional such as a dietitian, physiotherapist or podiatrist for a referral or call the MAP coordinator on 03 940 8653.
