Credit recognition allows you to translate your skills and knowledge – gained either through your work and life experience, or through previous study – into a formal qualification.
There are two strands to credit recognition:
Cross-credit or credit transfer
This approach will suit you if you’ve completed a course or qualification in the past and you’d like it used as credit towards a new qualification.
Recognition of prior learning
This approach will suit you if you’ve gained skills and knowledge through work or life experience and you can demonstrate that it’s equivalent to the skills and knowledge you’d gain from studying towards a qualification.
Applying for credit recognition
To apply for cross-credit or recognition of prior learning for individual courses you will need to:
- Complete the Ara Enrolment form (make sure you tick the credit recognition box in section 2 of the form)
- Complete the Credit Recognition form (a checklist is included on the back of the form)
- Submit your application to the relevant department (eg Business, Computing)
The Ara Contact Centre (0800 24 24 76 / email@example.com) and department staff are happy to assist.
Credit recognition applications cost $100 plus $100 per hour of required assessment time.
Centre for Assessment of Prior Learning (CAPL)
If you believe your prior learning can be assessed for more than a third of a full qualification, you can apply through Ara’s CAPL office.
