Otautahi House

Ara students coming to study in Christchurch have a brand new space to live in, with Ōtautahi House opening its doors to two new accommodation blocks, with a third block scheduled for opening in April 2017.

The student accommodation in the Christchurch Central Business District has expanded with these additions boosting the bed numbers available for Ara students from 72 to 192.

The Ōtautahi Education Development Trust has built the new accommodation and is leasing it back to Ara.

With the new accommodation on the doorstep of Ara and the city, which is now in full rebuild mode, students will not only be conveniently located to the Ara City Campus but also have the opportunity to experience all that the new city has to offer.  This is unique to Christchurch.

“The Otautahi accommodation has always been very popular and with increasing demand the Trust decided to build three new blocks. We’re pleased that for those students who come from out of town to study at Ara they now have greater inner city accommodation options,” says Student Support Manager Diana Law.

Ōtautahi House is situated in central Christchurch, on the corner of St Asaph and Madras Street, opposite the City Campus. The land was previously a car park after the buildings on it were demolished post-earthquake.

The accommodation offers modern attractive apartments with single bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, showers and toilets. It is close to amenities such as large supermarkets, a chemist, public transport, and is only a ten minute walk to Hagley Park.

All the rooms in the two new blocks are fully booked, but there are still some places available for the newest block that is due to open in April. The accommodation is open to fulltime Ara students, domestic or international.
