Bright and bubbly TV host and CPIT graduate Erin Simpson oversaw young masterchefs testing their skills in CPIT’s kitchens last Friday.

The teams of four young chefs were selected from 12 South Island finalists for the Maggi Intermediate Schools Kitchen Showdown segment on the Erin Simpson Show.

Judges praise the Lyttelton Primary School team’s efforts at the Maggi Kitchen Showdown.

The teams had just 50 minutes to cook and present a meal for four people – and clean up after themselves too – all the while with a TV camera roving around and Erin honing in on humorous moments.

“It’s great to be back at CPIT,” Erin said. “I was a National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Arts graduate, theatre was my first passion and that led to TV work.

“It’s been a fantastic environment to work in, so we couldn’t have found a better place to hold the South Island champs.”

Now in its third season, The Erin Simpson show is an afternoon, weekday, magazine style programme for 10 to 16 year olds.

Manager of Food and Hospitality at CPIT, Dennis Taylor, said that it was great to see the group of talent chefs at CPIT for Kitchen Showdown. “Most of these young contestants won’t have had the chance to work in an industrial kitchen, so it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to work in a professional environment,” he said.
