Kia ora colleagues and graduands

This morning I have confirmed a decision to postpone the upcoming Ara graduation ceremonies. We were very much looking forward to celebrating graduation with our two ceremonies in Christchurch next Friday 27 March; for many colleagues and students our graduation ceremonies are the highlight of the academic year.

This decision has been made as we consider the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in these occasions. We also recognise, due to the current travel restrictions that are in place, that families and supporters of a number of graduands may not have been able to travel and attend the graduation ceremonies.

Due to the postponement of the ceremonies all graduands will have their qualifications conferred and confirmed in absentia. We will also be looking to see how we can include our March ceremony graduates in the Spring graduation event, due to be held in September 2020; you will appreciate that we have some work to do for this to happen and therefore cannot confirm this at this time.

It is really disappointing that we will not have an opportunity to celebrate with all our graduands in person this month. A further communication will be sent out shortly to graduands to provide an update on logistics, refunds and other topics you might have questions about.

On behalf of the Ara Council and Chair Thérèse Arseneau, I would like to acknowledge the work that has been done by everyone involved in the successful completion of your studies at Ara.
