Ara Food & Beverage Competition 2023

The Ara | Te Pūkenga Food and Beverage Competition celebrates excellence within the hospitality industry. It's open to students, trainee chefs and all levels of the hospitality industry.

The competition features live kitchen events as well as static displays. In order to assist competitors to gain consistency in their work skills and competitiveness, the rules, judging and awards criteria are in line with the New Zealand Hospitality Championships standards.

The public are welcome to watch as participants compete. So come along and watch the action or enter and put your skills to the test!

Competitor information

Check the brochure for conditions of entry and available categories including additional paperwork required, such as:

Dish descriptions: Some competition categories require a menu card or dish description which provides a synopsis of the dish, as it might be described on a restaurant menu. Download the dish description PDF here.

Recipe cards: Some competition categories require a breakdown of the recipe, scaled to the portions being produced and including things like cookery method, times and temperatures. Download the recipe card PDF here.

Please complete prior to the competition and bring with you.

To compete, fill in and submit an entry form by 18 June but be quick - entries will be accepted on a first-in basis.

Entry Fees

Open entry (any age) $20 per class
In training
Anyone training and working toward a recognised cookery, bakery, or front-of-house qualification.
$10 per class

At schools
Open to all students (Years 1-13)

$10 per class
