Anjali Suresh came to New Zealand from India with a Bachelor of Science in biotechnology. Seeing the growing opportunities in laboratory technology in this country, she decided to add to her education by studying for a Graduate Diploma in Laboratory Technology at Ara.
She chose Ara on the recommendation of friends. “Ara is a well-established institute in New Zealand and I got impressive recommendations from friends and other students who had studied there,” she says.
Anjali was impressed by her tutors at Ara. “The tutors were lovely – really friendly - and they were available any time to help.”
She also liked the practical nature of the programme, and the way her tutors were able to explain how the skills and techniques she was learning are applied in real-world labortories.
A highlight was her work placement at Meadow Fresh in Christchurch. “It was one of the best parts of the programme,” she says. “It really helped me understand what it’s like to work in a food-based company and it was highly beneficial in developing my skills.”
Anjali’s work placement had another very welcome benefit. She now works for the company as a lab technician, and has the highly responsible task of testing raw milk as it arrives at the plant.
