The Manawa campus is located west of the city centre, very close to Christchurch Public Hospital. It’s on several bus routes and close to cycleways. Within walking distance are shops, cafes, supermarkets, recreation facilities, Hagley Park, the Botanic Gardens and the Christchurch Arts Centre.
Getting to Manawa
Parking is extremely limited and in very high demand around Manawa and the hospital. It may take you quite a while to locate an available car park so allow plenty of time if you’re visiting Manawa for an event or appointment.
If you’re coming into the city by car, consider parking at our City campus and either taking the bus to Manawa (see below) or walking (takes 10-15 minutes).

You can also catch a bus between Ara’s City campus and the Manawa campus. This service is free for Ara students and staff with an Ara ID. From the City campus, catch the Purple line bus from Stop 36051 on Ferry Road and hop off at Christchurch Hospital Stop 14704 on Tuam Street. From Manawa, catch the Purple line bus at Christchurch Hospital (Stop 51824) on Tuam Street and hop off at either Ferry Road near Barbadoes Street (Stop 36079) or Tuam Street near Madras Street (Stop 52958).
By bike or scooter
Bike stands are provided for staff and students at the Manawa campus (see map for location).
The main entrance to Manawa is on Antigua Street. There are signs throughout the building to aid wayfinding. All visitors should come to Ara’s reception is on the fifth floor.
Ara also occupies the ground floor and floors 1 to 3. These floors house teaching spaces, the simulation centre, IT suites, quiet rooms, common areas, a café, kitchenettes and breakout rooms.
