Prepare for further training or employment in hairdressing or beauty therapy.
Designed to give you real insight into the beauty and hair industries, this course provides an introduction to the salon environment and is an ideal launch pad for further training. It covers industry practice, industry safety, image, client and salon support, communication skills and preparation for employment.
Throughout the programme you'll have access to separate training salons for hairdressing and beauty therapy.
NZQF credits in the table below are awarded to you on completion of this programme. These credits contribute to achieving your NCEA qualification. In some instances you may also receive Ara credits. Ara credits are tertiary study credits that can be used to enter further study at tertiary level in New Zealand. Please note the number of Ara and NZQF credits are unrelated and may be different.
If you're a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident and are between 16 to 19 years old, you can apply to study regardless of the qualifications you've achieved at school.
If English isn't your first language, you may be required to provide evidence of your English language skills. Refer to the Acceptable Alternatives Chart or contact us for an assessment.
Applicants are accepted in the order they are received.
To enrol in this programme please:
- complete the Youth Admission and Enrolment form
- complete the High School Endorsement form
Programme delivery is conditional on enrolments reaching a minimum requirement.
This qualification will equip you with basic skills to enter employment in hairdressing or beauty therapy industries, or to pathway into further training.
Next step programmes include the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) Level 3 and the Certificate in Beauty Therapy Level 4.
