Prepare for higher-level study in construction.

This programme is designed to prepare you for construction management and quantity surveying diplomas at Ara.

It covers a variety of subjects including measurement and algebra, documentation and skills for academic study. Please note: the majority of courses within this programme are only available in Christchurch. Please check with the Department of Engineering and Architectural Studies for more information.

  • 40 credits NCEA Level 2, including 10 Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 Level 1 Mathematic credits (with a strength in Algebra for the Engineering Pathway and Numeracy for other pathways)

    New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3)

Alternative requirements
  • Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available.

English requirements
  • If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.

    IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.

    While entry to this programme requires an IELTS level of 5.5 Academic, entry to some of the Ara degrees requires a score of 6.5 or 7.0 Academic.
