Become work-ready for the civil construction industry.

This 19-week programme covers the skills and knowledge needed to become work-ready for employment in the civil construction industry. With a heavy emphasis on practical skills and teamwork, it will give you hands-on experience in paving, concreting and small plant operation. You'll also learn how to apply health and safety requirements and gain Site Safe Certification and Traffic Controller Certification (TC1).

    Note: IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test.

    Students who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills.

Career opportunities

Currently there is a shortage of skilled workers within the infrastructure industry (eg road construction and maintenance, concrete works, earthworks). With further training you could become involved in installation of pipes for waste and stormwater, trenching and bituminous surfacing.

Study pathways

Completion of this programme will enable you, when employed, to enrol in one of the strands of the New Zealand Certificate in Civil Works Level 4. Pathways are available up to supervisor level within this sector.
