Take the first steps towards a career in the electrical industries.
This programme provides the opportunity to gain basic electrical skills and knowledge prior to an apprenticeship or employment in the trade. It's also a good grounding for work in the security systems and audio industries. The programme covers: electrical theory, legislation and regulations, testing and safety, first aid, basic electric motors, basic use of tools, and numeracy and literacy for the electrical industry.
If you have work experience in this area, or a relevant prior qualification, you may be eligible for credit recognition towards this qualification.
To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits. Please browse the guide below to view the course options currently available within this qualification.
To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.
To enrol you must be in Year 11, 12 or 13 at secondary school. You must also be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or hold a visa which allows you to be enrolled in a New Zealand secondary school.
Some programmes require a minimum age of 16. Please enquire.
If English isn't your first language, you may be required to provide evidence of your English language skills. Refer to the Acceptable Alternatives Chart or contact us for an assessment.

On completion of this programme you can move into an electrical apprenticeship.
Further study can be undertaken with national certificates in electrical engineering, electronics technology, electronic security and industrial measurement and control.
