This full time one year diploma provides you with appropriate knowledge and skills in accounting, primarily you will investigate software applications, study accounting principles and accounting practices.

You will also gain a thorough grounding in financial and management accounting with options to specialise in taxation, business financing, or other aspects of business.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements
  • 50 credits at Level 2 or above with at least 12 credits in each of three subjects including a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo (4 credits must be in reading and 4 credits must be in writing). The literacy credits will be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards.

  • and a minimum of 14 numeracy credits at Level 1 or higher in mathematics or Pangarau on the National Qualifications Framework.

Career opportunities

When you have successfully completed this diploma you will be qualified to apply for employment in positions such as an accounts assistant or an administration assistant, which may lead to employment as an office manager. Our diploma is also an excellent foundation for expanding your accounting and business qualifications.

Study pathways

There are opportunities for further study after this diploma. You may decide to continue studying for the NZ Diploma in Business and after completing this qualification you may register with the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) as a provisional member.

Further study and work experience are required to become an accounting technician as awarded by NZICA. Completion of this programme will give entry and credit recognition to the business degree.
