Content

This short award prepares Registered Plumbers and Gasfitters to sit the Craftsman Gasfitting Examination, conducted by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Registration Board.

During your studies, you will gain skills and knowledge and learn how to explain the design principles and procedures, in accordance with current legislation and standards for:

  • Gas service lines, and meter installations
  • Gas supply pipe-work
  • Gas hot water supply systems
  • Domestic gas space heating systems and gas fired air heating and ventilation
  • Installations
  • Installations of domestic gas-fired appliances and equipment
  • Installations of commercial gas-fired appliances and equipment
  • Installations of industrial gas fired appliances and equipment
  • Gasfitting fluing (including sheet metal)

You must be able to work in a busy trades-related environment.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements
  • Completion of the necessary time requirements as set out by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board.

  • Successful completion of Registration examinations for either or both of the subjects

  • Successful completion of the National Certificate in Plumbing or Gasfitting Level 4

  • Students must have completed the Craftsman Common before beginning this programme.

English requirements
  • If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.

    Note: If you have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements you are not required to provide evidence of English Language Skills.
