The Certificate in Tertiary Learning and Teaching is a 60 credit workplace-based programme for practicing classroom teachers.

The programme will enable you to develop the basic skills you need to engage learners, design and plan for learning, assess and provide feedback and to reflect on and evaluate classroom practice.

The programme is focussed on applied classroom practice, and is delivered through a blend of workshops, on-line independent and interactive activities and classroom support.

You will need to be working in a tertiary teaching environment with access to students, learning programmes and teaching opportunities.

Programme structure

To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits. Please browse the guide below to view the course options currently available within this qualification.

To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements
  • 12 credits in NCEA English Level 1 and 36 credits in NCEA Level 2.
Alternative requirements
  • Evidence of equivalent literacy and ability to study at Level 5 through previous study, work or life experience

English requirements
  • If English is not your first language you are also required to provide evidence of your English language skills. Refer also to the Acceptable Alternatives Chart which includes credits in English-rich subjects from New Zealand educational institutions. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.
