If you're looking for entry into the creative industries, the Certificate in Arts and Media Level 4 will introduce you to the fundamental thinking processes and basic skills needed for further study in the visual arts, digital photography, or graphic design and multimedia.

In this foundation programme, you will be given the opportunity to try a variety of art and design techniques and media, so that you can decide what focus your future art and design education might take. You will also be helped to develop a portfolio for entry to higher-level study in the specialist area of your choice.

This certificate will help you develop a portfolio for entry to higher-level study or move straight to employment in this dynamic industry.

This programme consists of 75% practical work and 25% written work.

Graphic and Digital Design:

  • Graphic and digital design: Use the latest Adobe Creative Suite software including: Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and After Effects.
  • Gain industry-focused graphic and digital design knowledge and skills.
  • Learn about image manipulation, graphic design principles, layout, typography and animation.
  • Visual Culture: Gain a better understanding of art history and theory of images.
  • Drawing and Design: Develop experimental, technical and explorative drawing skills.

Visual Arts and Design

  • Drawing and painting techniques.
  • Photographic and printmaking techniques.
  • Sculpture and construction techniques.
  • Creative projects in response to specified briefs.
  • Documenting and evaluating work, within the context of traditional, historical and contemporary art/design practice.
