Content

Enhance your teaching skills and further your career.

Delivered through a blend of workshops, online activities and workplace support, this work-based programme focuses on applied teaching practice. Areas covered include group facilitation skills, questioning strategies, assessment and moderation, and learner-centred approaches suitable for diverse learner groups.

You'll be able to develop core teaching and learning facilitation skills appropriate to New Zealand adult and tertiary learning environments. Please note: you will need to be working in a post-secondary teaching environment with access to students, learning programmes and teaching opportunities.

In our most recent graduate survey, 100% of 2016 Certificate in Tertiary Learning and Teaching graduates were in employment (Ara Graduate Outcome Survey, 2016).

Alternative requirements
  • Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available.

Additional requirements
  • All participants must be working with learners in a post-secondary environment.

English requirements
  • If English is not your first language you may also be required to provide evidence of your English language skills. If you have no evidence of your English language skills and are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, contact us for an assessment.

    IELTS scores used must be taken from a single IELTS Test Report Form and are valid for two years from the date of the test. Students who have achieved NCEA Level 3 University Entrance requirements are not required to provide evidence of English language skills.
