Gain a fundamental understanding of the principles of weathertight design.
Our Weathertight Design course will provide you with a fundamental understanding of the principles of weathertight design. It will also inform and update you on the latest building code and standards, in particular Clause E2 - External Moisture.
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to understand factors to consider when designing a weathertight building (eg most suitable materials to use) including:
- the most likely entry points for water
- how to safely dry out a leaky building and keep it dry and ventilated
- the legislative requirements for designing weathertight buildings
- building consent and application processes and procedures
- different NZ building styles
- home owner maintenance responsibilities
Background knowledge of the building and construction industry is recommended.
Please note: towards the end of the course, participants will be required to complete a multichoice assessment.
On completion of this course, participants will be presented with a Statement of Attainment in Weathertight Design.
This course can also be used towards your LBP Skills Maintenance Requirement and is equivalent to 24 points.
Participants are invited to attend future industry programmes (as made available) as well as courses within our Construction Management, Quantity Surveying and Architectural Studies qualifications.

To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.
