This course aims to assist students in developing knowledge, understanding and skills specific to education in nursing. It challenges students to critically examine historical, philosophical and pedagogical movements, including current and evolving practices within nursing education in New Zealand and internationally.

Learning outcomes

Critically examine the history of nursing education in New Zealand, including international, pedagogical, cultural, socio-political and technological influences.

Critically examine explicit and implicit core values in nursing education.

Critically appraise factors and associated strategies which contribute to effective teaching and learning in nursing education programmes.

Articulate a personal philosophy of nursing education reflecting an understanding of nursing curriculum development in terms of philosophical and pedagogical movements, process and design.
