To enable Registered Nurses to further develop the clinical and theoretical knowledge and skills required in the identification and assessment of acute deterioration in adult health status.

Learning outcomes

  • utilise a rapid assessment framework to obtain, analyse and evaluate appropriate information in order to prioritise nursing and collaborative intervention.
  • analyse physiological responses to acute deterioration in health status to provide rationale for assessment findings and nursing actions.
  • identify the key physiological parameters associated with critical illness and clinical deterioration.
  • utilise a communication framework to articulate accurate and relevant information from the patient's situation, history and assessment findings to appropriate members of the healthcare team.
  • analyse the role and scope of nursing practice in situations of acute health deterioration and family support.
