To enable Registered Nurses to develop their knowledge in relation to preventing and relieving suffering and supporting the best possible quality of life for neonates, infants, children and adolescents with a life threatening or terminal condition and their families.

Learning outcomes

  • provide palliative care to neonates, infants, children and adolescents living with a life threatening or terminal condition and their families.
  • apply knowledge of the pathophysiology and clinical presentation of common symptoms experienced by neonates, infants, children and adolescents living with a life threatening or terminal condition.
  • recognise the impact of common symptoms on neonates, infants, children and adolescents and their families and best practices to prevent and relieve suffering.
  • analyse the practice issues surrounding establishing and maintaining strong and supportive relationships with neonates, infants, children and adolescents and their families.
  • critique understandings of quality of life for neonatal or paediatric patients with life threatening or terminal conditions and their families.
  • critically analyse challenging issues in the provision of care to neonates, infants, children and adolescents living with a life threatening or terminal condition and their families.
