To enable Registered Nurses to further develop their knowledge and practice in the nursing management of people who have Parkinson' s disease and understand the complexities of living with a chronic illness

Learning outcomes

understand the physiology of the central nervous system and analyse the pathophysiological changes which occur in Parkinson's disease.

understand the impact of diagnosis and on-going treatment on the individual and their family/ whānau.

analyse the health alterations that occur in Parkinson's disease and consider the impact of these alterations on the individual.

review and critique treatment modalities with particular emphasis on the principles of drug administration in Parkinson's disease.

implement relevant aspects of education, health promotion and change theory in the support of the person who has Parkinson's disease.
