Learning outcomes

examine the pathophysiology, epidemiology and clinical presentation of head, neck and gastrointestinal cancers.

identify the risk factors involved with head, neck and gastrointestinal cancers.

outline the screening and diagnostic procedures involved with head, neck and gastrointestinal cancers.

review and critique the treatment modalities for the above mentioned cancers and discuss the impact of treatment on the patient and their family.

reflect upon and critique nursing assessment and management of the above mentioned cancers.

apply an appropriate patient education and rehabilitation programme related to maintaining wellness within the parameters of the patient's illness.

understand the metastatic process of cancer.

discuss the impact that a cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment can have on the patient's self-esteem, body image and sexuality.
