Learning outcomes

analyse the role and scope of nursing practice related to acute cardiac care.

discuss cardiac physiology and the impact of alteration(s) in cardiac function.

analyse common health alterations and patient responses to provide rationale for collaborative intervention and evaluation.

examine current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in cardiac care and their role in the management of people with acute and existing cardiac disease.

assess patients: determine, obtain, utilise and evaluate appropriate information in order to prioritise and rationalise nursing and collaborative intervention.

analyse the relationships between patient assessment, diagnostic indicators, therapeutic intervention and evaluation.

discuss the effects that common pharmacological intervention and administration may have upon the individual.

apply knowledge of 'living with heart disease' beyond the 'acute phase' of illness.
