To enable students to gain knowledge relevant to physical health nursing practice in a safe manner across the lifespan.

Learning outcomes

  • identify and describe the aetiology, pathophysiology and presentation of major physical health changes in relation to the acute, chronic and rehabilitation phases, and their impact on people (including Maori), family and whanau.
  • outline and discuss health assessment skills, including the pathophysiological basis of health assessment findings.
  • discuss nursing assessments and analyse interventions to assist people who have altered physical health.
  • analyse approaches to nursing people with a disability who have altered physical health.
  • analyse and discuss the role of contextual factors on the health status of people, families and communities.
