Ara Music Arts Songwriting Competition

Songwriting 2019

We’re proud to present the 2019 Ara Music Arts Songwriting Competition, in association with Music Works.

The competition encourages young people to write songs and demonstrates that it’s possible to include song writing in a music career. Last year’s event attracted a good mix of styles and sounds, with 10 finalists performing solo and in bands at the prize giving show.

Entry is free and open to all Year 11, 12 and 13 students attending high school in Canterbury, and our own Music Arts students. Entries close 5 May 2019.

The prizes for 2019 are:

  • First overall - $300 plus a $200 Music Works voucher
  • First in the Secondary School category - $100 plus a $100 Music Works voucher
  • Runners Up (two) - $50 each and a $100 Music Works voucher

If your song is chosen as one of the 10 finalists, you’ll be invited to perform it at the awards show in our Music Arts auditorium on 2 June where the winner will be announced.
