Alternative academic entry for domestic students

If you don't have the Academic entry requirements as stated in the entry requirements for the programme, you may be able to gain entry through one of the following:

Over 20 year olds

If you are over 20 years old and have relevant work and/or life experience you may be admitted through Special Admission.

Qualifications other than NCEA

  • Cambridge International Examinations - Cambridge A Levels equivalent to NZ University Entrance, Cambridge O Levels equivalent to NCEA Level 2
  • International Baccalaureate
  • Overseas Secondary School Qualification: Equivalent academic entry. See the Academic Equivalence chart

Recognition of previous academic study at tertiary level

 If you have attained other New Zealand qualifications at Ara or another New Zealand Institution these may be acceptable as entry.

Foundation programmes

If you don't meet the entry criteria for a particular programme of study then Ara's foundation programmes can provide entry level qualifications for more advanced study.

Other possible entry options

Home School Education:  Applications for admission based on a home school education can only be considered if you have completed a recognised qualification or pathway.

Australian Applicants:  For admission purposes, Australian applicants are assigned the same status as New Zealand citizens and permanent residents, and admission and selection is based on the relevant prior attainment.
