An interactive one day workshop designed for students with an interest in fitness, nutrition and wellbeing. Discover the science behind nutrition, peak sports performance and how science is applied when working with elite athletes.Sport Smart takes place at The Zone, a purpose-designed facility with world-class high performance sport analysis equipment.

Plan for the day, health and safety and information about ARA Certificate in Fitness and Applied Science degree programmes.

9:15 – 10:30am GUEST SPEAKER (Jason Tiatia, Former New Zealand Sevens Player and Canterbury Sevens Coach)

10:30 – 10:45am BREAK

Learn about fundamentals of achieving nutrition success, what to buy at the supermarket, reading food labels, nutrition myth-busting and nutrition planning for training and events. 

12:00 – 12:45pm LUNCH

12:45 – 1:45pm SPORT PSYCHOLOGY
What it is and how to use it; learn more about the principles of sport psychology, including an introduction to the main psychological skills needed to peak performance, and take an in-depth look at how to cope under the pressure of sport environments.

1:45– 3:30pm PHYSIOLOGICAL TESTING SESSION (in rooms W221/222)
Fitness testing session that includes an anaerobic test (30 sec Wingate test), VO2max, vertical jumping and sprint testing.
