The Garden City Big Band, which was led for 15 years by Christchurch jazz legend, the late Stu Buchanan, is now under the leadership of the band's top-line baritone saxophone player Lana Law. Last year, it performed at the Jazz & Blues Festival with a tribute concert to Stu, and in December the band performed a tribute concert to two more of Christchurch's jazz legends, Doug Caldwell and Doug Kelly. The GCBB has been a keen supporter and performer at all the Christchurch Big Band Festivals since the festival was first launched in 2007. It is honoured to be part of the 10th festival this coming Labour weekend.
