Ara went tractor shopping and brought home a second-hand John Deere 6400 tractor to join the Automotive Big Machine workshop.

Automotive students in Timaru have a new 'big machine' to work on.

With so much local industry relying on tractors, it is important for automotive students’ future employment that they have the skills to work on these machines.

“A lot of work locally is supporting agricultural equipment. We have purchased this tractor to help the students work on real world resources,” Peter Sauer, Manager of Automotive and Autobody said. “Our graduates will leave Ara with practical hands-on skills that will give them the edge over other providers. This can be seen by our graduates being preferred by local industry for apprenticeships.”

Learners from beyond Timaru will be interested, Peter says. “This will attract more students to the region as this is the only full time Automotive heavy vehicle L3 Training in South Island.”

D&E the local John Deere agent, supported the purchase by providing transport and a pre purchase check.
