Sustainability at Ara

Ara staff and students now have access to more resources and professional development opportunities. Ara Institute of Canterbury has become a member of Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability (ACTS) which promotes sustainability in the tertiary education sector in Australia and New Zealand.

ACTS provides resources, knowledge, developmental and networking opportunities for members. The purpose is to give staff and students greater access to information about sustainability and provide a platform for discussions on sustainability. Any Ara staff member or student can sign up and receive access to these resources by going to http://www.acts.asn.au/ and "create a new account" and signing up using their Ara email address. It will take about 24 hours for your registration to be confirmed.

ACTS services include:

  • Workshops, training and professional development opportunities
  • Scholarships in sustainability for both staff and students http://www.acts.asn.au/initiatives/acts-scholarships/
  • The Green Gown Australasia Awards to highlight and profile sustainability initiatives and organisations behind them. Applications for this year's sustainability awards are now open. If you wish to propose an initiative visit http://www.acts.asn.au/initiatives/ggaa/2016ggaa/ and speak with Ara Sustainability Manager Shaun Bowler.
  • Exclusive members-only access to web based resources on: Leadership and Governance, Partnership and Engagement, Learning Teaching and Research, and Facilities and Operations. There is also contact information for other sustainable organisations to assist networking, collaboration, and information sharing.
  • Regional events
  • Membership also gives Ara staff and students access to the Learning in Future Environments (LiFE) Index aimed to help educational institutions manage, measure and improve their social and environmental responsibility performance (accessible from the ACTS website).

ACTS membership also gives Ara reciprocal access to sister organisations in the USA and UK and Asia:

ACTS has a social media presence as well, including Facebook and Twitter.

All Ara staff members can access the members' area on the ACTS website (http://www.acts.asn.au/) and the LiFE Index (http://life.acts.asn.au/) by registering as a user. ACTS will recognise the Ara domain name.
