CPIT’s Madras Street campus will be transformed into attractive and inspiring outdoor spaces thanks to designs to be developed by Align.

Align won the contract to renew the campus with an exciting combination of practical and creative landscaping ideas. They are already working closely with Diadem wayfinding consultants, who are developing a signage plan for both campuses, and have held their first stakeholder meeting with a representative group of CPIT staff, and students, from across the institute.

Besides the south quad and north quad major developments, Align will look at all the spaces between buildings on campus. Initial ideas include spaces for performing in, for relaxing in, for catching some sun, for informal study groups or for enjoying artworks. A memorial garden, a living wall, edible gardens, native plantings and culturally themed areas are all ideas being explored. Safety, parking and access for safety vehicles were issues that were also raised.

Align has offices in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Other projects include New Brighton Master Planning, the Christchurch Avon River park, a multi-home development in Queenstown and urban design in Kuala Lumpur.

BECA, the company project managing new building construction at Trades, will also oversee the new ‘heartspace’ landscaping development at Trades.
