Professor Naoko Aoki from Osaka University visited CPIT for three days with seven of her graduate students.

Professor Aoki is an expert on autonomous learning and whilst at CPIT she conducted a professional development session for Humanities teaching staff on how to give students more opportunities to study independently and take the initiative during classes. This presentation was organised in conjunction with the Language Self Access Centre (LSAC).

She also took the opportunity to explore the possibility of embarking on a ‘tandem learning’ programme between our Bachelor of Language (Japanese) students and students in the graduate education programme at Osaka University.

Naoko Aoki is a professor at Graduate School of Letters, Osaka University, Japan. She is a teacher educator and her practice aims to develop teacher autonomy in her students by using narrative. She was a founding joint-coordinator of JALT’s Learner Development SIG and is one of the co-editors of Mapping the Terrain of Learner Autonomy published by Tampere Univesity Press in 2009.

CPIT is looking forward to continuing to work with Professor Aoki to the benefit of not only our staff but also our students.
