The New Zealand Computer Society’s annual ICT Industry BBQ was held at CPIT on Wednesday 6 March, celebrating the connection between Canterbury tertiary institutions and the ICT industry.

Representatives from companies such as Jade, Tait, Allied Telesis and Telogis presented at the event, providing students with insight into what it is really like to work in ICT.

Over 70 students from tertiary institutions throughout Canterbury attended, making the most of their opportunity to learn about future employment opportunities. This was particularly relevant to senior students at CPIT who are required to complete an internship before graduating with the Bachelor of ICT.

The event kicked off with the announcement of the CPIT Jade Scholarship winner for 2012.

John Ascroft, Chief Innovation Officer at Jade, presented CPIT student Paul Titheridge with this year’s Jade Scholarship, recognising his achievement of the highest marks in first year Jade Software papers at CPIT. The scholarship provides $2000 towards Titheridge’s second year of studies at CPIT.

Titheridge was excited to receive the award which has encouraged him to aim even higher this year. “Receiving the Jade Scholarship has encouraged me to pursue computer programming further. Being recognised for my grades has really fuelled my interest in the subject,” he said.
