Three Bachelor of Applied Management business students who have just returned from international exchanges are bursting with self-confidence after studying overseas. Not only did they survive a semester at a foreign university, but they have returned home to Christchurch with a new worldliness, with great stories to tell and with lists of new friends from all over the world.

Two of the students were the first at CPIT to attend exchanges in Europe thanks to new partnerships created by CPIT's International team.

Cathy Lin is an international student at CPIT, from China, who spent the last five months on exchange in Dusseldorf, Germany, at Hochschule Düsseldorf School of Applied Sciences. Along with experiencing new cultures and lots of travelling around Europe, Cathy has made valuable connections. "I met students from all over the world who will help with my career in the future," she said.

Rebecca Lane attended Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, Maastricht, Holland, and discovered she had to adapt quickly to her new found independence.

Renae Jongerius headed for South Korea, where life was good at Chungnam National University. Quipping that she could have done her entire presentation on food because it was so good, Renae also found the world was easier to negotiate than she had thought. "I want to live outside of New Zealand when I graduate," she said. "I wouldn't have thought of doing that before the exchange."

International Director at CPIT Beth Knowles said it was a joy to see the young women sharing their stories having had such rewarding experiences.

"CPIT's international connections mean that our students can take advantage of the opportuntiy to live and study overseas for a semester. For many of them it is a life-changing time, where they discover not only another culture but their own ability to be independent, make new friends and grow as people."

The students studied 60-credit courses overseas and then completed an assessment, presentation and report about their study experiences.

CPIT offers a range of exchange opportunities. See for more information.
