Drawing to a close with architectural award

Abegail Ico is on her way to a rewarding career in the architectural technician field after winning the Architectural Designers New Zealand Award for Best Academic Student award at iDraught – Showcase of Diploma of Architectural Studies at Ara Institute of Canterbury’s Kahukura last Friday.

Kahukura, the new Jasmax-designed Engineering and Architectural Studies building at the City Campus Christchurch, has given students a real life example of design and draftsmanship taking shape.

For iDraught, students showed off their own skills to industry partners, family and friends, by producing working drawings and documentation for small and medium scale projects that meet with the requirements of New Zealand legislation, codes of practice and New Zealand and Australian standards.

Matthew Grayling Andrew Hawthorne and Samuel Moulton took out the first, second and third years prizes respectively.

The minimum two-year Diploma of Architectural Studies equips graduates to work as a technician on domestic and commercial building projects. The emphasis is on building technology, sound construction detailing and communication.
