Pink themed baked goods were snapped up by staff and students yesterday, the results of a staff baking competition to raise money for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF).

May is traditionally the month of Pink Ribbon Breakfasts but Michael Edmonds, Manager of Science Programmes, wanted to do something different. “I thought a baking competition was a great way to get staff together and for them to enjoy themselves in a friendly competition,” he says.

Cakes, slices, cupcakes and other creative creations were presented for judging yesterday morning with CE Kay Giles, Bakery Tutor Tony Goddard and a few other eager volunteers acting as judges. The criteria were overall form, taste and appearance, with bonus marks for entries that featured pink and for the pink ribbon representing the NZBCF.

The goods were then put up for sale in the Rakaia Atrium, raising a total of $1109.60. Staff were also encouraged to wear pink and make a donation to the NZBCF in celebration of ‘Pink Monday’.
