Speaking to over 250 graduates at CPIT’s Spring Graduation Ceremony last Friday, Bestwick said “you will never regret the time, money, sweat, tears and just plain hard work you have invested in your studies at CPIT. The qualifications you have achieved will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life.

“Your timing is perfect. You have completed your studies at the very start of the most significant growth period in Canterbury’s recent economic history.

“Over the next decade, according to the Reserve Bank’s latest figures, approximately $30 billion is going to flow into the Christchurch and Canterbury economy as we rebuild the city and surrounding regions, and grow the wider economy. This means more jobs, business and wealth creation opportunities for our community than have been present in any of our life-times.”

For those who choose to take their CPIT qualification overseas, a tertiary education is also a valuable and powerful start, she said.

“Obviously tertiary study helps you learn more about your chosen field of study, whether that be nursing, information technology or construction. But tertiary education teaches you much more than that.

“During the course of your studies at CPIT you will have developed powerful skills in research, problem solving, intelligent enquiry, processing and reflection, innovation, effective engagement, discipline, time management and above all self-confidence and self-belief. That is one powerful bundle of skills you now possess and are ready to unleash on the working world!”

CPIT graduate Anthony Leighs from Leighs Construction inspired graduates with his keynote speech at the event, which was also attended by CPIT’s industry partners and graduates’ family and friends.
