Southland radiography career offers excitement
No two days are the same for Southland Hospital’s Radiographer Jess Healy. She’s been on the job for nearly a year now and thrives on the excitement of emergency work and the interesting cases she works on each day.
“Medical imaging is forever changing… I [am] continually learning and experiencing new things. No day is the same with the variety of work and people I meet.”
Healy was snapped up by the Southern District Health Board just a week after completing her CPIT Bachelor of Medical Imaging in December 2012.
She credits her clinical placement experiences as part of the CPIT degree with preparing her for the real working world.
“The academic and clinical blocks [of study] gave me all the knowledge and skills that I needed to start my career instantly. This was a huge bonus as I was able to slot in as a member of the radiology team straight away.”
Jess Healy loves working as a radiographer at Southland Hospital.
Healy always knew she wanted to work in healthcare. She chose medical imaging because she was strong in science subjects at high school and wanted variety. The international opportunities were also a draw card.
“The CPIT Medical Imaging degree is recognized around the world. One day I hope to explore the opportunities this presents.”
With new and emerging technologies evolving all the time, Healy’s line of work will be ever changing. She looks forward to coming to work and is confident she has chosen the career path meant for her.
