Osaka scholarship rewarding for CPIT student
CPIT Japanese Language student Bina Shurety will return from the trip of a lifetime next week after living in Japan for a year on scholarship to Osaka International University. Five CPIT Bachelor of Japanese Language students have the opportunity to attend a university in Japan each year to improve their language skills and learn the culture.
Bina was welcomed to Osaka by her host family who she lived with for the duration of her studies in Japan. The home stay experience was very rewarding for her. “Home stay is one of the best ways to learn a language and my family have been very patient and caring with me,” she says.
The people she has met have been the highlight of the trip for Bina and she has made lifelong friends. “The teachers are so kind and helpful and the Japanese students have welcomed me from the beginning,” she says.
One of the most valuable things Bina learnt was patience. “There are times when your opinion differs or there is a gap in your language knowledge. Patience is very valuable and is not something I could have been taught in a classroom,” she says.
Bina has fallen in love with the city and her experiences will be with her for the rest of her life. “I’ll never forget attending a huge Japanese Rock Concert,” she says.
She would recommend the experience to other language students.
“I am very fortunate to have been selected and my language skills have improved immensely over the past year. The people are lovely and the culture is rich. Anyone who is thinking about going on exchange to Japan should not hesitate,” Bina says.
