CPIT team wins Nestlé Toque d’Or
CPIT’s Daniel Hoare, Hannah Grieve and Gina Johns took out the Supreme Gold Medal Award at premier student culinary competition, Nestlé Toque d’Or in Auckland last night.
The team of students from CPIT’s School of Food and Hospitality impressed a panel of 19 judges against teams from throughout New Zealand and the Cook Islands.
“This is a fantastic result which comes from a huge amount of work by the team and by our tutors who prepared them,” Dennis Taylor, Manager of Food and Hospitality at CPIT says.

The students spent months preparing for the competition, perfecting a three course meal for six and practising delivering each course to three diners and the judges table within a set time-frame.
CPIT’s team has won Toque d’Or 14 times in the 23 years the event has been running and it has launched the careers of many graduates.
One of last year’s competitors Khatherine Angelina now works at Chillingworth Road restaurant in Christchurch after impressing Chief Judge Darren Wright. Wright is also a CPIT graduate and ex-tutor and was in charge of the Toque d’Or panel again this year.
Each member of the team receives $2000 as a prize while CPIT’s School of Food and Hospitality was awarded $1000.
